Lost & Found

A Manchester based reseller has discovered one of the lost government data disks hidden in a laptop brought in for repair.

Managing director for the company said: "A customer brought in a laptop for a standard repair and when one of my technical team began to dismantle the laptop, he found, lodged underneath the keyboard, a disk labelled 'Home Office: Confidential'. He came to me with it and I called the

police."

A full investigation involving the Counter Terrorist Unit and Greater

Manchester Police is now underway.

Unrest at Evesham as Austin jumps ship

Speculation surrounding the future of Geemore Technology, which trades as Evesham Technology, was growing last week after it emerged that managing director Richard Austin has jumped ship and left the ailing

firm.

The Evesham brand has lived on for six months under the might of former Time/Tiny founder Tahir Mohsan, whose Dubai-based investment firm, PCC Technology, salvaged Evesham with a $22m (£11.3m) injection last summer.

Mohsan created a new firm, Geemore, to sell under the Evesham brand, with former Evesham chairman Austin heading up the business. Last month, the PC assembler admitted crisis talks had led to between 30 and 40 redundancies, but stressed it was still in business and would continue with 80 staff.

Trading Standards to crack down of Software Piracy

Firms using unlicensed software could face greater risk of detection from next month.

From the 6th of April 2007 trading standards can raid businesses suspected of software piracy.

The Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) has suggested IT departments could be raided without warning

The TSI said it will use its new powers to tackle piracy rather than lax licensing.
